Update: One Person Dies in Fiery Crash North of Des Moines

POLK COUNTY, Iowa — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident that happened north of Des Moines Saturday night.

According to the crash report, a car was headed westbound in the 1700 block of NE 46th Avenue around 9 p.m. when it hit a concrete barrier, rolled onto its top and caught fire. A passenger was able to get out of the car, but the driver was trapped inside and killed. The passenger was taken to Methodist Hospital with injuries.

The names of the victims have not been released.
