Car Accidents Cause Power Outage in Ames

AMES, Iowa – Two accidents Friday morning caused a power outage in Ames, Friday morning.

City officials say two separate accidents involving cars hitting utility poles happened simultaneously at about 9:30 a.m.

One of those happened on 13th and Lincoln Way and caused a brief power surge in the power line. It led to backup generators to kick on at Mary Greeley Medical Center.

Some other businesses in the area were also affected.

Crews had power back at the hospital shortly before 11 a.m.
