Friends and family gathered to remember a 21-year-old man who was shot and killed last week.

Des Moines Police have not yet arrested anyone for killing Leroy Gordon III. Gordon was murdered in the Drake neighborhood on Nov. 7, near 21st Street and Forest Avenue.

Friends and family gathered Sunday night for a candlelight vigil to honor his memory.

“I’m standing here tonight honoring my son, Leroy Gordon Jr.,” said Ivone Gordon.

“Hopefully this is a wake-up call for somebody, it might not be a lot of people but it might be for somebody,” said Calvetta Williams.

“I’m going to miss him.  He was the only friend that I really had; now I’ve got to go every day without him.  And it’s hard,” said J. Sean Thompson.

Everyone that knew him knew that he was a great guy.  Everyone loved him,” said Ivone Gordon.

Nearly 100 people attended Sunday’s candlelight vigil.  A memorial fund to help the family is available through Banker’s Trust.
