Local American Cancer Society workers are hoping Iowans will get involved in one of biggest cancer studies of all time

By the time it is done 300,000 people in the U.S. will participate over three decades in Cancer Prevention Study 3.

Cancer Study 1 revealed the tie between smoking and lung cancer. The second study is still being used today and focused on the ties between cancer and obesity.

The third study will deal with environmental factors like exposure to the sun and its effect on skin cancer rates.

If you’d like to participate you can go online and fill out a short survey.  It takes about 30 minutes to sign up. When you sign up you will also schedule a face to face meeting on one of three days next week starting April 17th. That appointment will take 20 to 30 minutes.

The study will last 20 to 30 years and participants will get questions in the mail every year to fill out about their health.
