A babysitter is being hailed as a hero for rescuing seven children from a burning van.
Tara Dekkers was driving a 15-passenger van in the northwest Iowa town of Ireton when it caught fire Friday.
She says she heard it backfire just before the van started filling with smoke.
Dekkers pulled the van over and got all the children, ages one to six, out safely.
“I think that I did what anyone would do in that situation and I just praise God that he gave me the clarity and the quickness to get them all out before the van went up in flames,” Dekkers told KTIV.
Dekkers says an Ireton man helped keep the kids warm in his pick-up while they waited for another ride.
