The Komen Race for the Cure is the largest run-walk series in the world. It is also a celebration of life for those winning in their fight against breast cancer.

Des Moines’ annual race started around seven this morning. Organizers say this event brings those affected by this deadly disease together. An estimated 12,000 people signed up for the race. And there were plenty of people cheering them on, including a group of cheerleaders from Waukee. Cheerleader Julie Gunderson says, “It’s really crazy you know. We`re all cheering. People are getting pumped up and really excited that they have someone here that`s encouraging them to finish and to keep fighting.”
