A standoff in northern Iowa ended with a man in handcuffs Tuesday afternoon.

At around 4 p.m. officers from several agencies surrounded the Lomitas Mexican Restaurant at 607 Sumner Avenue.

The sheriff’s department says an armed man took hostages at the restaurant. They were soon released when authorities spoke to the man, Adolfo Flores.

As negotiations were underway, nearby business were told to lock their doors and remain inside.

The situation ended shortly before 5:30 p.m. when Flores surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.

Flores is being charged with false imprisonment, domestic assault, going armed with intent and carrying weapons.
