Governor Branstad spent part of Friday in Waterloo, meeting with employees of Beef Products Incorporated.

Friday was the last day of pay for more than 200 people that worked at the plant.

The closing comes in the wake of the controversy over lean, finely textured beef, also known as pink slime.

The company says demand for beef dropped sharply, forcing it to shut down the plant.
