DES MOINES, Iowa — After more than 100 years in business, one of Des Moines’ best-known clothiers is now under new ownership.

Frank Marcovis, the owner of G & L Clothing, confirmed that Boot Barn is buying the business. It is the end of G & L being an independently-owned business, but it is not the end of G & L Clothing. Marcovis said the store will become a member of the Boot Barn family but will still be known as G & L Clothing.

All G & L employees will be offered jobs at the new store, and Marcovis is staying with the store as the commercial accounts manager.

“Customers will see the same familiar faces and merchandise when they come into the store with the same level of personal customer service,” said Marcovis.

Marcovis said they weren’t originally looking to sell and wanted to pass on the business to the next generation, but when that didn’t work, they found a partner instead.

G & L  specializes in blue-collar working attire and has been in business in several locations since 1917.

Boot Barn owns more than 240 stores in the U.S.
