LOUISA COUNTY, Iowa — A Muscatine man’s body has been recovered from the Mississippi River after he was reported missing after going swimming Friday.

The family of 40-year-old Jayson Fowler says his body was located Sunday afternoon. He had been swimming with friends Friday evening north of Port Louisa when he disappeared under the water.

Wapello Fire and Rescue says the body was spotted by a boater in the main channel of the Mississippi River near Keithsburg, Illinois. Search crews went to the area and were able to recover the body.

The investigation into Fowler’s death continues but officials say they do not believe foul play was involved.

Fowler was originally from the Rosehill and Oskaloosa area.
