Iowa’s peak boating season begins Memorial Day weekend and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is reminding boaters about safety.

There’s also a new alcohol limit for boat operators. Last July, the limit dropped to .08, the same as if you were driving a car. DNR officers recommend using a designated boat operator.

The DNR also says there will be extra patrols during busy times.

Other safety advice from the DNR: always wear a life jacket, review boating laws, look out for debris in the water, have patience on the ramps and water, and get the weather forecast before heading out.
