CLIVE, Iowa – A Clive couple could go to prison for life when sentenced in August for human trafficking.

Aldair Hodza and Laura Sorensen plead guilty to kidnapping, torturing and sexually abusing a young woman from southern Iowa.

Law enforcement officials say this case shows that sex trafficking is a big issue in the state.

“We’re in a state that is a pass through state. We have highways that dissect our state north, south, east, and west. The victims come here and they work here,” said Captain Curt Henderson with the Iowa State Patrol.

Thursday, Clear Channel Outdoor and local law enforcement announced a campaign to stop sex trafficking.

For the next four weeks, 30 billboards across the metro will display statistics about the crime.

They will also have the phone number to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline.

A former trafficking victim says the billboards will be valuable resources both for victims and the public.

“I really think those posters are not only good for awareness and letting people know the reality of this, but it’s also good to know that people do care and are judging you for being forced into this situation. Those posters would have been able to help me see that,” said Tina Frundt, director of Chelsea’s House, an organization that advocates for child victims.

Similar campaigns have been launched in 17 other states.
