The new co-chair of the Republican Party of Iowa said he’s behind Governor Terry Branstad’s reelection efforts.

Just four years ago, Danny Carroll told a crowd “you are answering to God Almighty” as he endorsed the beliefs of the Family Leader’s Bob Vander Plaats over Branstad.

Carroll said there are always differences in politics but he’s now committed to supporting Branstad’s sixth term in office.

“Let’s face it, if you’re going to be on the State Republican Committee or a part of the Republican Party’s leadership, part of that, at least indirectly, you’re going to be supporting Republicans.  I certainly look forward to supporting Governor Branstad,” Carroll said.

Four years ago, social conservatives at the state convention tried to get Vander Plaats on as a Lieutenant Governor instead of Branstad’s pick, Kim Reynolds.  But Carroll said Reynolds will be the party’s nominee for Lieutenant Governor.
