DES MOINES, Iowa -- "We were going to Chicago and from Chicago to LAX, so it was a direct flight from Chicago, but it`s the flights coming in I guess. They don`t get the planes coming in, so they can`t take them out," said Scott Helling of Ames. Scott and his mother Marlene have tickets to the Rose Bowl, but their flight was cancelled today.

This wasn't just about seeing a football game, as the trip had an extra special meaning.

"It was in memory of my father who was a huge huge Hawkeyes fan and so he passed away two or three years ago, but we said if and when the hawks ever got there, we were gonna go out there so, it was kind of a dream come true, but it`s not gonna happen," said Scott Helling.  "My husband`s brother was picking us up. We`re very disappointed, because this was a big deal for us," said Marlene Helling.

Then there are folks who don't have tickets to the Rose Bowl, but were planning on going to Pasadena to tailgate, like Zach Morgan. Morgan, who's from Pella, but now lives in Los Angeles, won't be able to fly out of Des Moines until Sunday, due to the weather.

"It`s disappointing yeah. I was talking to all my friends about it back in California, because they know I`m from Iowa and you know the big game`s coming up. So, I was talking to quite a few of them, kinda getting them ready to go tailgate and I just had to text them a little bit ago, and let them know I won`t be able to make it and I would actually be stuck in Iowa, go figure," said Morgan.

Corey Symmons is from Fairfield, but now lives in San Diego. Weather has caused him to reschedule his flight to Saturday. "I`ve had season passes for two years up until last year, been going to all the games. This is the first year I haven`t been able to go to a single one since I moved down there in the beginning of July," said Symmons. "(It's) Very frustrating, I mean it was cool being like oh you know cool, they`re going to the Rose Bowl, and I get to go to actually you know at least go to tailgate with everybody, but now i`m missing out big time."
