JOHNSTON, Iowa – Fire crews were called out to a residence in Johnston Tuesday night after a backyard chicken coop caught fire.

It happened at a home on Longview Drive. Firefighters on the scene said they believed the fire was caused by a heating source for the chickens. The fire caused damage to the coop as well as a fence on the property.

Officials did not immediately know the number of chickens lost in the fire.
