Runners and walkers in Bettendorf exercised for a cause on Saturday.
The group got together at Veterans Memorial Park to take part in the annual Gigi’s Playhouse Awareness Walk, a fundraiser for those with Down syndrome.
The ninth-annual one-mile walk had a new twist this year, the Superhero Run. The new run lets people dress up like their favorite superhero to raise money and have fun.
Organizers said the community support for the event has been overwhelming.
“It starts as a family but on a day like this, you learn that your family is a lot bigger. It is the community that is out there to help you,” said race volunteer Mike Mudd.
Saturday’s event also included raffles and a silent auction.
