DES MOINES, Iowa – Des Moines police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning at an after-hours party.

According to a police report from the Des Moines Police Department, there were approximately 1,000-1,500 people present for the party, which was located at 1255 Thomas Beck Road.

Two officers were driving in front of the building at approximately 3:30 a.m. and heard about 10 gunshots in a nearby parking lot.

As the officers exited their vehicle and walked through the parking lot, they heard another set of 3-5 gunshots. The officers heard one bullet zing over their heads during this time, which led them to believe that they had become the shooter’s targets.

The officers continued westbound through the parking lot and used vehicles for cover from the bullets.

Another round of 8-10 shots were fired just west of the officers’ location, right in front of Confluence Brewing Company, located at 1235 Thomas Beck Road. As police looked for a suspect, they noticed an individual limping to a vehicle on the west side of the parking lot.

Officers made contact with the victim and assessed his injuries. He had a single gunshot wound to his buttocks.

As medics were called, the victim stated that he was leaving the party and heard gunshots rang out once he was outside.

The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said they found several bullet casings in the area, but have no suspects at this time.
