OSKALOOSA, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Public Safety announced the identity of a man whose body was found was found by a hunter last week.

The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office says a hunter reported finding skeletal remains along train tracks just north of Oskaloosa on Dec. 16.

On Wednesday, authorities say the remains have been positively identified as 34-year-old Jeffrey Allen Versteegh, of Oskaloosa. Versteegh was reported missing to the Oskaloosa Police Department on July 28, KBOE Radio reports. He was last seen on the south side of Oskaloosa.

An autopsy was performed Monday, but the cause and manner of death have not been released at this time. Results could take up to eight weeks to be completed.
