The man responsible for badly beating a well-known metro barefoot runner will be sentenced Tuesday in Polk County court.

Thirty-one-year-old Ben Vogl pleaded guilty to one count of assault without intent causing serious injury in the November beating of Forey Jacobson. Vogl beat Jacobson so badly while at Johnny’s Hall of Fame in downtown Des Moines, he was in a coma and nearly died.

Vogl came forward in March and confessed, striking a deal with prosecutors. He is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday morning.

Another man was initially charged with the crime but was cleared of any involvement in the beating.
