Construction is underway for the memorial of Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins. Volunteers are working on the Angel’s Park project at Meyer’s Lake in Evansdale.
For about a month volunteers have been cleaning out brush and timber on the island. But during the process, they also ended up removing many of the trees which has some people concerned.
Volunteers say they weren’t planning to remove all the trees, but they weren’t healthy.
“We already have people donating new trees,” said volunteer Sarah Staebell.
Crews say people need to wait and be patient. “There are days where you just want to throw your hands in the air. But we’re not going to do that…you can’t please everyone. There’s always going to be people out there that have to complain, and that’s unfortunate. But you know what? At the end of it, they just might be the people that are enjoying that park,” said Staebell.
Volunteers are hoping to remove the tree stumps later this week as long as the weather cooperates. Then they will plant new trees consisting mainly of Evergreens, Blue Spruce and Oak trees.
All of the money for the Angel’s Park project has come from donations.
