Ames Police Make Arrest in Shooting Investigation After Incident Initially Reported Accidental

AMES, Iowa – Police in Ames have made an arrest following a shooting that occurred on Oct. 21.

At approximately 6 a.m., the Ames Police Department initially received a report of a shooting at 206 West Date Court.

When officers arrived, they found 36-year-old Harland (Jesse) Cummings of Ames with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The shooting was originally reported as accidental.

However, as the result of an extensive investigation, Jesse's wife, 35-year-old Candace Cummings of Ames, has been charged with first-degree murder in this incident.

She is currently being held in Story County Jail.
