DES MOINES, Iowa – A grief support center that helps families after the death of a loved one celebrated 35 years of service on Sunday afternoon.

Since 1980, Amanda the Panda has provided services to nearly 35,000 community members across the state. To mark the anniversary, the organization held outdoor activities at Raccoon River Park on Sunday.

The organization was a place for Juli Steppuhn-Henderson and her daughter to turn to after Juli’s husband passed away in September of 2004.

“Amanda the Panda offers that place where your story is, it’s okay to be how you feel, to feel how you feel, and be able to share that story with people who will understand and not be judgmental,” Juli said.

The organization also gave tours of its new West Des Moines facility during the celebration.
