DES MOINES, Iowa - Due to AIB College of Business announcing its closure and discontinuation of all athletic programs at the end of the 2015 season, the school hosted the first of three student-athlete recruiting days Friday. Athletes are calling it a second chance.

"For all of us, the athletes, we thought it was over. We were worried about not being able to do what we love anymore but coming here and looking at these coaches who are gonna give us a second chance; were gonna take it if we can get it," says junior basketball player, Alexyss Burkhartsmeier.

More than a dozen college athletic staff representatives and recruiters set up booths at the AIB Activities Center Gym. Representatives from colleges and universities from within the state and neighboring states spoke with student - athletes who wish to continue their athletic careers. Some recruiters say this type of athletic fair with experienced players is unique.

"These kids are probably more attractive in this sense because they have an idea of what college life is about," says Waldorf athletic director, Bart Gray. "We want to make sure those are 4 precious year for them. That they are able to realize their dream and get their education and still fill out there athletic accomplishments as well."

AIB College has about 1,000 students and 12 athletic programs (women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's golf, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's bowling, baseball, softball and a cheer/dance/pep band program).

The college will host two other recruiting days: Friday, March 20th and May 15th, from 11am - 2pm at the activities center gym. School officials also are arranging to host an academic fair in the coming weeks.
