The Iowa Secretary of Agriculture says the rain over the weekend helped soybean development.

Soybean conditions are still lagging behind previous years but farmers are hoping plants will produce more pods due to recent rain.

Officials say the crop is maturing rapidly and will likely result in a record early harvest.

As of now, 36-percent of the bean crop is in poor or very poor condition while 25-percent is good or excellent.

Meanwhile, 27-percent of the corn crop is mature. That’s two weeks ahead of a normal year.

Fifty-three percent of the corn crop is in poor or very poor condition and 15-percent is good or excellent.
