The weekend rains halted a productive week of fieldwork according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
There were 4.4 days suitable for fieldwork. Farmers were out manure hauling, tilling, oat seeding, applying anhydrous, and planting.
Seven percent of corn was planted, four days ahead of last year, but on time for the five-year average.
Nearly a third of Iowa's expected oat crop was planted during the week. That's the third highest percentage seeded for the third week of April in the last 20 years. Seventy-four percent of the oat crop has been planted, two weeks ahead of last year, and a week ahead of the average.
Twenty-one percent of the oat crop has emerged.
