Three years ago, U.S. beef and pork exports first passed the $5 billion mark.
In September, both broke that mark in just the first three quarters of the year. The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) announced this week beef exports increased by six percent from last year and pork exports were up seven percent in value, but down three percent in volume.
September pork exports were worth $513 million according to USDA, which is up 14 percent since the beginning of 2014. Beef Exports for the month were up 15 percent at $631 million.
USMEF President Philip Seng says the results are impressive considering a strong U.S. dollar, beef production declines, and Russia's import ban.
