Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey announced Friday that $501,500 are available in cost shares through a new program designed to help organic farmers.

It helps cover organic certification expenses, farmers can get 75 percent reimbursement of certification expenses limited to $750 per certification scope.

The Agriculture Marketing Service says those costs can range from a couple hundred to several thousand dollars, with application fees, annual renewal fees, production assessment, and inspection fees.

The program is part of the 2014 farm bill.

The deadline to apply for assistance is November third.
