The first round of the TransAtlantic Trade and Investment Partnership or TTIP negotiations concluded last week.

The first round focused on many trade issues pertaining to agriculture, specifically sanitary and phytosanitary practices, called "SPS," which concern animal health and plant health. U.S. Chief TTIP Negotiator Dan Mullaney and European Union Chief TTIP Negotiator Ignacio Garcia-Bercero agreed a tighter SPS framework is necessary in any future bilateral trade deal, such as TTIP.
