DES MOINES, Iowa — The city of Des Moines has plans for a new park, with a familiar name.

Riverview Amusement Park was open for business on the island near 6th and Corning until 1978. Now the city wants to build an outdoor concert venue in its place, which could hold 10,000 people.

The project comes with a price tag of $4 million, but leaders say it’ll be worth it.

“There’s a lot of larger musical acts that bypass Des Moines sometimes because of the lack of a venue like this. So there will be a demand and we won’t have a hard time filling up the venue,” said Jack Dougherty with the Parks Area Foundation.

The city will begin work on the project as soon as the money is raised.
